I received this wonderful 5 Star Review of Black Yéʼii (The Evil One) from highly acclaimed author and blogger Tom McCaffrey. I feel both honored and humbled. Here is what he had to say:
I picked up this book because I had heard so much about this talented author and the title, Black Yé’ii, intrigued me. The writing was, as promised – clean and straightforward. The storylines were complex and yet woven together like a seamless tapestry. Each member of the sets of characters – the blended family of creative boys – the different departments of detectives and officers – and even the rotating squads of gang bangers and common hoodlums – all stepped in and out of their spotlight whenever their number was called and each exited with lots of action if and when their tickets were punched. The author had me constantly guessing – wrong – on just how things were going to shake out. I probably should have read his other books so I could have landed running with this one, but the author wove in the necessary backstories just when you needed them. I loved the way the author developed the multidimensional characters in the family of boys. You could feel the empathy and love. The cops were on point – I have LEOs in my family. Loyalty, support, family. The final resolution of the second major storyline was gut wrenching but honest. The title remains an underlying universal theme that drives all good books like this one. Joseph Lewis is the finest of writers. Don’t miss this one.

For those of you who read and enjoyed my book, Black Yéʼii (The Evil One), I received another video teaching from Shane Brown and his father about “The Evil One,” which is the translation of Black Yéʼii. Here it is:
When Coyote stole fire from the Evil One… The stories say he was angry.
When we filmed this, I wondered why the Evil One was angry.
Listening more, it occurred to me that the fires that burn within … the spiritual fire, the emotional fire, the intellectual fire, and the physical fire all keep us on a path of joy, happiness, confidence, and peace.
Without these fires, the desire for joy, happiness, confidence, and peace fade.
I can think of times in my life when these have barely been a smoldering coal. And other times when they rage (in a good way).
I think the purpose as we mature is to get better at feeding them and maintaining a constant fire. That seems to be the most effective.
When I was younger, my father would talk about the things you can do in each area to grow the fire. Maybe we’ll do a video on that later.
The Evil One doesn’t want the five-fingered being on a path of joy, happiness, confidence, and peace.
That is why he was so angry when Coyote stole the fire.
As usual, my father shares the teaching and story much better than I do in the video.
Enjoy!

Many of you know I’m writing book #11, The Disappeared, another thriller-crime-mystery. I am a little over 33,000 words (how publishers measure book length), which means I am one-third finished with the first draft. I wanted to give you a synopsis (book blurb) of what the new book is about:
Fans of Tony Hillerman and C.J. Box, fans of the series Dark Winds, and fans of my book, Betrayed, which is a bestseller on Amazon in two categories and winner of ten awards, will like The Disappeared.
Set deep within the rugged expanse of the Navajo Nation Reservation, fear spreads like wildfire. ICE agents are detaining Native Americans, even those carrying proper identification, under the cold glare of floodlights and bureaucracy. Some are released after days of questioning, while others vanish without a trace.
Among the missing are George Tokay’s girlfriend, Rebecca, and two of his closest friends – young, full of promise, and suddenly gone. Desperate and furious, George joins forces with a small, covert unit of the Arizona National Guard, three detectives – Graff, O’Connor, and Eiselmann, and three hardened FBI agents – Kelliher, Storm, and Dahlke, all veterans from previous investigations.
Their search cuts through desert canyons and forgotten roads, uncovering a labyrinth of corruption and deceit. Each clue reveals another layer of danger, and every ally might be a betrayer. As suspicion mounts, a terrifying possibility surfaces: the disappearances may be tied to the brutal Sinaloa or Juarez Cartel, and the hunters may soon become the hunted.
I hope you enjoyed this post. I’d like to know your thoughts on it, so please use the comment section below. As always, thank you for following along on my writing journey. So until next time …
